About The Cutler Student Center
The Cutler Student Center is scheduled to open in January 2024. The College is investing $21 million into the 35,000 square foot building. The project is funded through a USDA Rural Development Loan and donor gifts.
Conveniently situated between two residence halls, the design features include lounge, dining and activity options. The building’s centerpiece will be a rotunda and fireside lounge. Student activity zones will include the following:
- “Tu Taco” dining option, beverage and dessert station
- Spirit store
- Mailroom
- Meeting spaces for student clubs and organizations
- Multi-purpose conference room
The Center will also house the Student Government Association, Department of Student Engagement and Campus Safety.
The Cutler Student Center will create an exciting, inclusive place where students will build new and stronger relationships, resulting in an even greater sense of community and a more vibrant and immersive student experience.
“The University of Olivet is our home. We have our bedrooms in the dormitories. We have our kitchen in the Kirk Center. But what’s been missing is the living room, as the building architect refers to the Student Center. Now, we’ll have our living room. It will be the area where students come to hang out and have fun regardless of the residence hall or apartment where they reside.” Elijah Collins ‘22 said at the May groundbreaking.
Elisabeth McIntosh agreed. “The University of Olivet is a family community and the Center will allow for even more opportunities and ways to bring people together on campus.”
The Center is being constructed on the former site of MacKay Gymnasium and will seamlessly connect to the Upton Recreation Center. The classic identity of the College will be maintained through Georgian revival-style architecture.
The project’s architecture, design and planning firm is The Collaborative and the construction management company is The Christman Company.
