Since joining The University of Olivet as Director of Esports in December 2025, Ethan Sudall has been building momentum within the program, expanding opportunities for student competitors and strengthening the culture of teamwork and growth. With both competitive experience and coaching expertise, Sudall is helping shape the future of Olivet esports.

Before coming to Olivet, Sudall earned his bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Siena Heights University and served as Assistant Director of esports. During his collegiate career, he also coached high school students while competing himself.
“I’ve been coaching on and off throughout my collegiate career. Even when I was a player, I would home-coach high school students. I’ve always enjoyed helping others grow in the game,” said Sudall.
A Growing Program at Olivet
The University of Olivet esports program currently has a roster of 21 students, with teams for Rocket League, Overwatch, Super Smash Bros., Valorant, Rainbow Six, and Hearthstone. Interest continues to expand, with students and recruits expressing interest in competing in other multiplayer titles such as Apex Legends and Marvel Rivals.
Sudall sees esports as more than competition.
“It’s really unique,” Sudall said. “Esports gives students the opportunity to not only earn a scholarship and compete for the university, but also to further their education.”
That’s a mission that matters to Sudall. “What I really enjoy about my position is offering students, like myself, who didn’t really know what they were going to do after high school, the opportunity to further their education and grow as individuals.”
Competition, Community and Growth
Sudall enjoys the passion and competitiveness that his players bring to the program.
“Just like playing a traditional sport like football or soccer, you’re going to want to practice as much as possible to improve,” he said. “Our students really enjoy the titles that they play. Seeing them practice on a day-to-day basis and watching their progress over the semester is incredibly rewarding.”
As a player, Sudall’s favorite game to play is Rocket League. “I reached the professional level for a brief moment, so it really is one of my favorite games that I’ve ever played. I’m grateful for the opportunities it brought me,” Sudall said.

An Invitation to Join
For students and prospective sudents considerin esports as part of their college experience, Sudall has a simple message:
“Come give it a try. We’re always looking for new student-athletes. We want anyone interested to come join and have fun.”
Under Sudall’s leadership, The University of Olivet esports program continues to grow, offering students a competitive outlet, scholarship opportunities and a supportive community where they can thrive both in-game and in the classroom. Learn more about Olivet’s esports opportunities.
