The University of Olivet is proud to announce Dr. Stephen Burton ’68 as the 2025 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year. Each year, this honor is presented to an alum who has exemplified the University’s values through professional achievement, leadership, and service to others. Dr. Burton and other honorees will be celebrated during the annual Homecoming Distinguished Alumni Awards & Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner on Sept. 26.

After graduating from Olivet, Dr. Burton attended the University of Michigan Medical School, earning his degree in 1972. He completed his internship at Akron City Hospital, followed by a residency in orthopedic surgery at Akron General Medical Center and Akron Children’s Hospital.
In 1979, Dr. Burton became a founding member of OrthoMichigan, where he practiced for more than three decades. Alongside his medical career, he served on the teaching staff at Hurley Medical Center and McLaren Flint, mentoring countless medical professionals.
Dr. Burton’s dedication extends beyond medicine. He has held leadership roles in the Flint Jewish Federation and The Valley School, and today he continues his service as a member of The University of Olivet Board of Trustees.
Outside of his professional and community commitments, Dr. Burton enjoys restoring and driving Model A Fords and collecting ancient coins. He and his wife, Loren Sue, have been married since 1976 and are the proud parents of three sons: Andrew, Jason, and Aaron.
The University of Olivet will honor Dr. Burton at the Distinguished Alumni and Athletic Hall of Fame celebration on September 26. We invite the entire Olivet community to join us in celebrating his achievements and reconnecting with classmates and friends during this special weekend.
