In December 2022 Dr. Meredith Dodson completed her 208-page doctoral dissertation in December 2022. Entitled, “Crafting a Different Kind of Story: Experiences of Creative Writers Leading in Higher Education,” Her scholarship examined creativity in leadership from a perspective of the leader’s own sense of artistry in order to better understand how leaders develop and harness their own ability to be creative and be effective in their professional leadership roles. Her research was conducted with 12 leaders who were also published writers. Among her conclusions was the finding that skills and understanding derived from creative writing training are indeed useful to leadership, including having a people-centered philosophy and strong creative thinking skills. In October 2022, Meredith was a co-presenter with Susanne Lewis and Sarah Peterson to a packed house at the IUPUI Assessment Conference in Indianapolis, IN, of a paper titled, “From BINGO cards to curriculum maps: A curriculum alignment initiative.”
