Charlotte Public Schools students will now be automatically admitted to The University of Olivet, thanks to Olivet Direct!, a new program that makes the admissions process faster and easier for qualified students. President Steven M. Corey, Ph.D., and Charlotte Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Mandy Stewart signed the Olivet Direct! agreement on March 23.
Direct admission allows high-achieving students to lock in their acceptance and financial aid award without requiring them to go through a lengthy admissions process. The College launched the program in December 2022.
“The University of Olivet is a proud and close neighbor to Charlotte Public Schools. We are thrilled that more Charlotte High School graduates will be able to attend The University of Olivet and benefit from our generous financial awards structure because of the Olivet Direct! program,” said President Corey. “An The University of Olivet education alters the trajectory of a person’s life. A four-year degree increases a person’s lifetime earnings, opens the door to countless career possibilities, broadens life experiences, and offers opportunities to build lasting friendships and mentorships with diverse populations.”
Further, Charlotte Public Schools high school students may qualify for the The University of Olivet ADVANTAGE Scholarship, which will cover the full cost of published tuition and general fees after all federal, state, and institutional grants and scholarships are applied. To qualify for free tuition, seniors must be eligible for the new state Michigan Achievement Scholarship, be Pell-eligible and have been a Michigan resident for at least one year. The University of Olivet ADVANTAGE Scholarship aims to guarantee students, especially first-generation students and those from low-to-moderate-income families throughout Michigan, a quality, relationship-based college experience.
Superintendent Stewart said, “Charlotte Public Schools are excited to be partners with The University of Olivet in offering college opportunities so close to home. Being able to streamline acceptance into college, paired with the ADVANTAGE scholarship opportunities, will allow our students direct access to higher education. Any barrier we can remove for education, including any fear of acceptance and student debt, will support our students and their goals for future careers. We will continue to support this program and others like it for the benefit of our Oriole students!”
