Bloomingdale Public Schools students will now be automatically admitted to The University of Olivet, thanks to Olivet Direct!, a new program that makes the admissions process faster and easier for qualified students. President Steven M. Corey, Ph.D., and Bloomingdale Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Deanna Dobbins signed the Olivet Direct! agreement on March 27.
Direct admission allows high-achieving students to lock in their acceptance and financial aid award without requiring them to go through a lengthy admissions process. The College launched the program in December 2022.
“The University of Olivet is thrilled that Bloomingdale High School students will be able to take advantage of direct admission and benefit from our generous financial awards structure,” said President Corey. “An The University of Olivet education alters the trajectory of a person’s life. A four-year degree increases a person’s lifetime earnings, opens the door to countless career possibilities, broadens life experiences, and offers opportunities to build lasting friendships and mentorships with diverse populations.”
Further, Bloomingdale Public Schools high school students may qualify for the The University of Olivet ADVANTAGE Scholarship, which will cover the full cost of published tuition and general fees after all federal, state, and institutional grants and scholarships are applied. To qualify for free tuition, seniors must be eligible for the new state Michigan Achievement Scholarship, be Pell-eligible and have been a Michigan resident for at least one year. The University of Olivet ADVANTAGE Scholarship aims to guarantee students, especially first-generation students and those from low-to-moderate-income families throughout Michigan, a quality, relationship-based college experience.
Bloomingdale Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Deanna Dobbins said, “Bloomingdale Public Schools is excited for our students to be offered this amazing opportunity. We are thankful for our students who will qualify for this opportunity and be able to attend college because of it easily. Our mission at Bloomingdale is, ‘Cultivating a community of lifelong learners’ and our vision is ‘Where students of today become valued contributors to tomorrow’s community.’ We believe this partnership will create an educational advantage for students who may not normally have the funding to attend a college like Olivet; now, with this partnership, college can become a reality.”
