Registration is open for The University of Olivet’s third annual Cultivating Women Leaders (CWL) event, which will take place March 22 at Cutler Event Center, The University of Olivet, from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Under the theme Together We Rise, the event will inspire and equip young women to embrace their inner strength and realize their potential as responsible leaders.

There is no cost for prospective The University of Olivet students, current The University of Olivet students, faculty and staff, or a parent or mentor who accompanies a prospective student. For all others, registration is $100, which includes lunch. Everyone who registers by March 1 will receive a free professional networking tool.

CWL allows women of all ages and backgrounds to network and receive professional and personal development from Michigan’s finest women business leaders, including some of The University of Olivet’s most successful alumnae. Attendees will gain valuable insight from keynote speaker Polo Tate, author of “Deep Dark Blue: A Memoir of Survival,” who avidly shares that with determination, you can do anything.

Be the Change

A new addition to the CWL lineup this year is the “Be the Change” panel comprised of some of The University of Olivet’s top students: Nicole Deweyert, Brittany McDuffie, Matthew Ellis and Tyler Nobel. The panel will cover topics such as how to successfully transition from life as a high school senior to college freshperson; how to get comfortable with being uncomfortable with any form of diversity; and how to get involved and engaged without overloading yourself.

Brittany McDuffie

Junior Brittany McDuffie, a biology major with a premedical concentration, feels empowered just by the theme “Be the Change.” By selecting to attend a smaller college and earn a relationship-based education, Brittany feels as though her impact can go farther.

“I love the simple fact that we are the change,” Brittany said. “I think that’s huge for my generation. I would love to show younger students that the sky is the limit — nothing is too high to reach. To my fellow OC and college students, I want to inspire them to keep pushing. Yes, you might fail, but if you made it this far, what’s one more step? Women everywhere must stand on the shoulders of the women who came before us and speak up about things that matter, such as equal pay. I am honored to serve on this panel and excited to truly be the change this world needs.”

Tyler Nobel

Junior Tyler Nobel, an insurance and risk management major, is excited to share more about how he found his home away from home at The University of Olivet.

“I was inspired to serve on the panel as an outlet to share my insights and positive thoughts about my experiences at The University of Olivet. I think I can help students discover the tools to success not just at Olivet, but as any college student,” Tyler said. “One message I would like to share with the audience is that you only have a limited amount of time to be young. Enjoy your freedom now by taking advantage of opportunities to discover who you are and be confident in that person.”
