The art exhibition “Ann Jacob: Ecologically Naive” by Ann Jacob is on display at The University of Olivet from Jan. 23 to Feb. 27, 2025. An artist’s reception will take place on Friday, Jan. 31, from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition and reception will be held at the Kresge Foundation Art Gallery inside the Riethmiller Blackman Art Building. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
Jacob’s work features quilts, purses, scarves and table pieces crafted from hand-dyed fabrics and repurposed materials such as plastics, old sails and discontinued fabrics. Her art focuses on animals, nature, and environmental issues, often incorporating unique finds and photographs inspired by her travels.
Jacob earned a bachelor’s degree in interior design from Wayne State University and a Master of Arts in art from Northwestern State University of Louisiana. She works as a textile artist and teaches fiber classes at the Flint Institute of Arts and the Grosse Pointe Artists Association. Jacob’s passion for fabric began as a child, learning to sew from her grandmother. She also explores other media, including colored pencils and sculptural welding.
