Dear The University of Olivet Family,
I am reaching out to you with a message of unity and hope.
The senseless, violent deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and other Americans in recent months have brought painfully to light the unresolved issues of racism, racially-motivated violence and inherent injustices in the systems in our country.
The University of Olivet was founded 176 years ago on the values of equality, inclusion, mutual respect, honesty, integrity and compassion for all human beings. As the college that defines itself by who it includes, rather than who it excludes, we remain a beacon of hope and of change in the world.
Together as the The University of Olivet family, let us demonstrate our unshakable resolve and reaffirm our shared values of inclusivity, equality and social justice that have endured and remain more important today than ever. I challenge you to demonstrate this resolve through action. Speak out, on social media, to your friends, to your family, to those in power. Peacefully protest or support those who do. Model these values through your own behavior. And, most importantly, exercise your democratic right and responsibility; vote for those who share and demonstrate that they hold these values too.
Be safe. Be responsible. Take care of each other. Together, YOU, the The University of Olivet family can change the world.
With pride in our The University of Olivet family and with very best regards,
Steven M. Corey, Ph.D.
President
