Developing tennis players and wrestlers have the opportunity to experience what it’s like to be a The University of Olivet Comet this summer by attending an athletic camp. Athletes will learn from OC’s acclaimed coaches and interact with OC’s student-athletes. The University of Olivet sports summer camps are designed to encourage a healthy lifestyle, teach valuable skills and give young athletes the opportunity to be a Comet.
Men’s and Women’s Tennis Camp
Mondays and Wednesdays, June 17 through July 31
Partnering with Harper Creek High School, this OC camp is open to students from seventh grade through college-aged players. Players will be divided into groups based on skill level. The University of Olivet head tennis coach Andrew DeBruyn and assistant tennis coach Stuart Noble, both accomplished tennis players, along with the Comet teams and Harper Creek coaching staff, will serve as instructors. Each session is from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and costs $10 per player. Registration in advance is not required.
“I am very excited to be hosting our The University of Olivet Tennis Camp, partnering with Harper Creek High School,” Coach DeBruyn said. “The main reason we’re hosting this camp is for our tennis community! This will be a great opportunity for local tennis players to get instruction and meet new people in a fun environment. Our camp will help prepare players for their tennis seasons, and we welcome players of all skill levels.”
Wrestling Camp
June 24-26
Open to students from elementary school through high school, athletes will train with NCAA men’s champions, World Team members, and current college wrestlers and coaches. The University of Olivet head wrestling coach Brandon Brissette will lead the camps; he has more than 10 years of college coaching experience and is a decorated college wrestler himself. Youth wrestlers will learn proper techniques and take part in wrestling sessions, as well as learn from guest speakers. In addition to improving their wrestling skills, campers are sure to have a fun and enjoyable experience at The University of Olivet.
“The University of Olivet Wrestling Camp is a quality experience for wrestlers of all ages. I even had my first camp experience as a youth wrestler at OC’s camp,” said Adam Wilson ’11, assistant wrestling coach. “This year’s camp is going to be exceptional. Our coaching staff worked hard to make sure we were presenting the best guest clinicians, and they are the reason behind our excitement. It’s amazing for aspiring wrestlers to have the ability to learn from accomplished athletes like Kyle Snyder and Dalton Roberts. Campers will also have an opportunity to get to know the OC coaching staff, train with Comet wrestlers and experience life on campus.”
Men’s Soccer ID Camp
July 26
This free camp welcomes boys ages 14 to 18 who would like to learn more about what The University of Olivet has to offer academically, athletically and socially. Participants will tour campus, dine in the Kirk Center, get an inside look at athletic facilities, train and scrimmage with current OC players and coaches, and engage in a Q&A session. The University of Olivet head men’s soccer coach Dan Montanye will lead the camp, putting his impressive talents into action, having played semi-professionally himself.
“This camp is a fantastic opportunity to visit the The University of Olivet campus and learn about opportunities for Comet student-athletes,” said Coach Montanye. “You’ll also get the chance to meet and work with the coaching staff and current players of the OC men’s soccer team. The team is comprised of a diverse group of guys, including several international students, and we focus on providing an inclusive, fun and goal-oriented environment.”
