The University of Olivet Women’s Resource Center and Multicultural Department present the 14th Annual Women of Color Empowerment Luncheon on Wednesday, March 22 at 11:30 a.m. in the Oaks Room at the Kirk Center. Linda Lee Tarver, president of the Republican Women’s Federation of Michigan, will be the keynote speaker.
The luncheon is open to all The University of Olivet students, staff and faculty. There is no cost for faculty, staff or commuter students. Reserve your seat by March 20 by emailing multicultural@uolivet.edu.
In 2016, Tarver was elected president of the Republican Women’s Federation of Michigan. In its 93-year history, Tarver is the first African-American elected president and is the only African-American president in the nation.
Tarver has been involved in local and state politics for many years. She served as ethic vice chair of the Michigan Republican Party, is the former chairwoman of the Ingham County Republican Party, has been a member of the 8th Congressional District executive committee, and is a former advisory board member of the Frederick Douglass Foundation of Michigan. Tarver is an active member of the MI Republican Women’s Club and is the vice chair and founding member of the Alliance of Black Republicans. She has been a national delegate to the Republican National Convention three times. In 2016, she was one of six Trump for President co-chairs in the state of Michigan.
Tarver is director of community affairs and elections integrity liaison with the Michigan Department of State. In 2013, Gov. Rick Snyder appointed her to the Michigan Civil Rights Commission. In addition to her public service, she is president of Tarver Consulting.
The Women of Color Empowerment Luncheon is held annually in March in honor of Women’s History Month.
